What
is DuraSurf™?
DuraSurf™ is the registered
tradename of ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) products
manufactured by Crown Plastics Co., most notably our sintered base materials for
snowboards and skis. For over a decade, Crown has supplied every major snowboard
manufacturer with DuraSurf™ products which have helped create and drive the sport
of snowboarding throughout the world.
DuraSurf™ has become
renowned for its tremendous durability, along with the other well known
advantages of sintered base, those being speed, wax absorption and retention,
impact resistance and consistency in extreme temperatures. Our proprietary
manufacturing process allows us to provide a flatter, clearer, less stressed
material to manufacturers, with lead times far shorter than our competitors.
But the advantages go much
deeper. Over the past several years, DuraSurf™ has been the driving force behind
the industry changing from a screen printed base, to the much more vivid
presentation of die-cut pigmented material. DuraSurf™ has also been the major
factor in the use of base sublimation, with over 500,000 bases produced thus
far. Recently, DuraSurf™ has been supplied in multi-colored and multi-sintered
patterns, developed for use by two of the world's largest snowboard companies.
And there's much more to
come. DuraSurf™ has recently become available in a clearer version for screen
printing, a blacker, faster carbon formula, and various new colors and patterns.
In the very near future, keep your eyes peeled for a whole new family of
high-performance bases which will once again provide the industry with the
products and technology to move ahead in the fast-paced world of snow sports,
proving once again that DuraSurf™ is the leader in sintered base technology.
